1. Putrajaya: Around the Putrajaya Lake

This 10km route brings you around the Putrajaya Lake in all its splendour and plates up great views of the city.

2. Kuala Lumpur: Taman Metropolitan Kepong

A 3.6km running loop around undulating terrain surrounded by lush greenery. This park is also near the Forest Research Institute Malaysia where there are multiple trails across different terrains, which should make a great day trip for nature lovers.

3. Penang: Penang Botanical Gardens

There are big loops and small loops within the park which allows for hill and speed training within the natural rainforest. Park information here.

4. Melaka: Bukit China

This is a little off the beaten track for Melaka, and also probably a bit spooky as it’s a hillside burial ground dating back to the Ming dynasty. But the several trails leading all over the hill make it a popular spot for runners. If you drop by for the sunset, you’ll probably run into many other joggers admiring the arresting views. Go for a run in one of the oldest lake gardens in Malaysia, commonly touted as the “most beautiful lake gardens in the country”. Taiping Lake Gardens is brimming with greenery and surrounded by breathtaking hills, plus the monkeys here are a cute highlight as well! Address here.

6. Selangor: Shah Alam Lake Gardens

Running tracks surround the three pristine lakes in the Shah Alam Lake Gardens, where you can also find children’s playgrounds, a water theme park, an aquarium shop, a floating seafood restaurants and many other interesting attractions. While on the run, you’ll also be treated to a picture-perfect view of the Shah Alam State Mosque. Location here.

7. Sabah: Tun Fuad Stephens Park, Kota Kinabalu

The biggest recreational park and jogging site in the capital city of Sabah, Tun Fuad Stephens Park is blessed with canopies of trees in a natural rainforest. There are also multiple jungle trekking trails within the park so if you’re heading over with a non-runner, they can always take a hike (no pun intended).

While this long beach doesn’t come with powdery soft white sand, the harder surfer provides for a great and super scenic running spot. Here’s how to get there.

10. Terengganu: Pulau Redang Long Beach

Ahhh… Pulau Redang, one of Malaysia’s most beautiful islands, with its pristine beaches and superbly clear waters. Nothing beats going for a run on this stretch of beach which showcases all that Redang has to offer.

11. Kedah: Telaga Tujuh, Langkawi

This is a rather tough, uphill trail run (or hike if you can’t stand the elevation), but you’ll be rewarded with a refreshing waterfall as well as the panoramic view of the surrounding islands. Learn more about this trail here.

The locals come for the beautiful lake but there are also great jogging tracks and sampans should you want to row a boat after your run through the gorgeous park. See location.

Cameron Highlands is your escape from the hot and humid weather of the rest of Malaysia. While most of its trails through the forest is more suitable for hiking than running, you could definitely combine both as there are also plenty of tar roads available through the popular spots.
